Woolly Mammoths vs. Priorities: What We Need More Right Now
Written on
The Need for Better Priorities
The scientific community has been buzzing about the potential revival of the woolly mammoth. While I think these creatures are fascinating and wouldn’t mind catching a glimpse of one, I question whether their return is truly necessary at this moment.
The woolly mammoth thrived in icy landscapes, which seem to be diminishing rapidly. Perhaps we should redirect our focus towards ensuring the survival of polar bears instead.
It’s worth considering whether the plan is to allow polar bears to go extinct only to bring them back later. While that might seem like a more complex endeavor, I remain skeptical.
In light of that, here are several things we might require more than a woolly mammoth.
Some Ice and Frozen Landscapes
If woolly mammoths were to be brought back, wouldn't they need to be sheared like oversized sheep due to rising temperatures? If scientists do manage to resurrect these majestic creatures, finding a suitable habitat for them would be essential. Polar bears and penguins would surely appreciate some cooler environments as well.
A Sustainable Amount of Rainfall
Currently, the Western United States is grappling with severe droughts, leading to wildfires across various regions. Interestingly, there’s a buzz about the potential for water on Mars, but it would be far more beneficial if we could locate more water in California. In light of this, the notion of “asbestos trees” is far from appealing.
Breathable Air
As time progresses, the quality of air might deteriorate to the point where we’ll have to choose between “smooth” and “chunky” options. The phrase “Ah, just enjoy that fresh air” may soon be replaced by, “Ah, just observe that fresh air.” At least we’ll have a visual representation of what we’re breathing.
Rotary Phones
This shift from significant issues to minor ones may seem trivial, but some of these ideas are quite feasible. Why a rotary phone, you may wonder? Have you ever experienced an accidental call from one? Have you ever misplaced one? Plus, there’s no need to charge a rotary phone. And if you have been butt-dialed by one, you might have a viral video on your hands!
Phonebooks
Ever been camping and found yourself in need of toilet paper? A phonebook could serve as a practical alternative in a mid-sized town. The internet has its limitations; you can’t exactly use it for personal hygiene purposes. You can only document such moments on social media.
Athletes with Realistic Perspectives
We often see professional athletes complaining about a lack of respect while earning millions each year. Perhaps they should spend a day interacting with the public to gain a better perspective.
This is just a brief list of items that could be more beneficial than reviving the woolly mammoth. While they may be captivating creatures, let’s hope things don’t take a turn like in Jurassic Park.
