Three Ambitious Dreams for My Journey on Medium

Chapter 1: Embracing the What-Ifs
The world is often filled with uncertainties, especially the lingering "what-ifs." I count myself among those who ponder these possibilities. A few months ago, during a period when I wasn’t fully committed to writing, I didn’t give it much thought beyond it being something I loved. Yet, I had three aspirations that seemed bold enough for a Medium writer.
You might perceive some of these as the musings of someone hesitant to take action, and I can’t argue with that—I was working a demanding construction job, clocking nearly 50 hours a week. So, it’s understandable if my dreams seem unrealistic to you; perhaps you’re still grappling with the idea of dreaming bigger. But I have moved past that.
Here are my three most ambitious aspirations for my journey on Medium.
Section 1.1: The Dream of Collaboration
This aspiration emerged when I was not taking Medium—or writing in general—seriously. My busy schedule left little room for content creation, as I was focused on resolving issues in blueprints and structural designs at my job. After contemplating the potential success I could have had on Medium during my first year of writing, I began to think, “What if I could write for another Medium author and get compensated for it?”
At that time, many of my articles weren’t generating income. So, why not assist a top writer who may be preoccupied with other projects or platforms and earn some money in return? I know I might sound lazy, but I’ve since recognized that it’s a viable business idea. There’s no shame in monetizing skills, but I also need to build my own visibility and online presence. So, no thank you—I’m not going that route.
Don’t be surprised if other writers are already profiting handsomely by writing for their peers on Medium while you lament about the algorithm working against you.
Subsection 1.1.1: The Vision for Fair Compensation
Section 1.2: The Desire for Consistent Earnings
This idea is a bit of a departure; it focuses more on enhancing the platform itself. Let's be honest: Medium tends to reward writers who are already prominent, often those who have seen success on other platforms. This indicates that a writer’s earnings are largely tied to their community engagement and relationships.
Nevertheless, some writers seem to thrive regardless. They may only post once or twice a day, yet each article can earn anywhere from $30 to $50.
What I’m suggesting is that I wish Medium would provide a set fee every time an article is published—say, $3 for each piece, irrespective of views or engagement metrics. Trust me; this would encourage more writers to contribute regularly. However, what about those whose writing lacks quality in areas like:
- Formatting
- Editing
- SEO
- Writing skill
- Substance
I’m not sure if they should qualify, but I know this is one of my wildest dreams for Medium.
Chapter 2: The Call for Greater Recognition
I must admit, I have a specific hope for Medium itself. When I type "Medium" into my search bar, I enter a unique realm. Unlike platforms such as Instagram or Facebook, Medium has its own identity. I genuinely wish that writers could receive more acknowledgment for their contributions.
Medium should welcome collaborations with major external publications and influential marketing firms that could benefit from the talent of Medium writers. Why shouldn’t writers land endorsement deals? Perhaps it’s because many are only recognized within the confines of this platform and not beyond it.
This is one of my wildest dreams—to secure an endorsement deal from Medium. It may sound far-fetched, but who knows? I might just be the first writer to achieve that.
