# Reviving Our Planet: From Green Oceans to Blue Waters

Chapter 1: The Color of Our Oceans

"Why are our oceans green? Can anyone tell me?" Ms. Teacher inquired, scanning the room, but no hands were raised. "No one at all?"

"Because of the farms," Karin chimed in, always eager to voice her thoughts without waiting for permission.

"That's an astute observation," Ms. Teacher acknowledged. "From the shoreline, it may appear that way. However, if you were to view Earth from space, you would notice that our oceans are predominantly bright green. Did anyone know that they were once blue?" She looked around at the bewildered faces in front of her.

"Blue?" We whispered to each other in disbelief.

"Yes, blue. Earth used to be referred to as the Blue Marble, not the Green Planet. Our oceans have turned green due to an abundance of Neo-Plankton," Ms. Teacher explained. "Long ago, our vegetation thrived in deserts, above ground, rather than beneath the waves."

"In the deserts?" I exclaimed, astonished by this revelation. That day, Ms. Teacher seemed particularly welcoming as she prepared us for a unique lesson. She dimmed the lights and projected stunning images of our once-vibrant planet onto the walls.

"Indeed, in the deserts. Our waters were devoid of Neo-Plankton, and instead, they were a brilliant blue. The land was lush and green." As she displayed images of a world we had never known, we saw people wandering freely without protective gear, unafraid of the sun. It appeared as if the greenery around them provided a shield. Their farms thrived on land, not along the coasts. The variety of food was unimaginable—the abundance of life was overwhelming. The visuals felt so foreign to my classmates and me that a few of us began to feel anxious.

"What happened?" Karin asked, her eyes welling with tears.

"That's a poignant question, Karin. Neo-Plankton was developed a century ago as a solution to our predicament. These images illustrate what our world was like before we were forced to retreat underground. At that time, we had drained the Earth of its resources," she continued, revealing images of environmental destruction: pollution, devastation, overconsumption, and further pollution.

"We harmed our planet. To rectify our mistakes, we created Neo-Plankton. Lacking forests to purify our air, we had to innovate. We utilized genetic engineering to develop an organism capable of capturing the carbon we emitted into the atmosphere over the past few centuries. Neo-Plankton helped stabilize our climate. That's why our oceans are green."

"Every year, our oceans contribute to cooling the planet. They provide the oxygen we depend on, and gradually, we are healing Mother Earth," Ms. Teacher reassured us.

"Will we ever return to the surface?" Karin asked, her tears starting to dry.

"Well…" Ms. Teacher hesitated.

"Don't be foolish, Karin!" Elliot shouted from the back of the class.

"You shouldn’t say that, Elliot!" Ms. Teacher interjected.

"No," Elliot stood defiantly. "I refuse to sit here while you preach this so-called Global Cooling, Climate Change conspiracy. If the Earth gets cooler, our crop yields will decline. What do you think we'll eat? There won't be any algae left." Frustrated, Elliot stormed out of the classroom. He worked on his family’s farm, and this lesson deeply unsettled him.

"Everyone, I understand this is a lot to take in. But the reality is, humanity was on the brink of extinction when we transformed our oceans to green. As we advance as a civilization, it's crucial to remember our past to avoid repeating our errors."

"We face significant challenges as temperatures decrease, but this is merely the beginning. Adapting our farming practices will be crucial for our survival as a species. The key takeaway is that this transition will occur gradually, giving us time to adjust. But to answer your question, Karin, I hold onto hope that we will one day return to the surface. Many people are skeptical, I must admit. However, I believe it will happen! It may not occur in my lifetime—or even yours—but eventually, we will walk on grass again. And our waters will be blue once more."
