Navigating the Complexities of Therapy and Creativity

Chapter 1: The Challenge of Expression
So, you truly want to know how I'm doing? Well, my Creative Writing professor recently set us a task: to craft a 400-word narrative encapsulated in a single sentence. While I agree that a lengthy sentence can instill a sense of urgency, it’s crucial that there's a genuine purpose behind this urgency. One example she provided was an expertly constructed monologue that showcased this technique effectively. However, many single-sentence stories I encounter in literary magazines often feel like they stem from a teacher's prompt rather than a structure that genuinely enhances the narrative.
Interestingly, some of my classmates produced pieces that I suspect literary magazines might reject for being too "unliterary" in a vague, ethereal way. Yet, I found those stories quite compelling and resonant. I wonder, is "grok" still a term people use, or has it become a tongue-in-cheek reference? I remember it from Heinlein's works, which were quite popular in their day.
Lately, I've been overwhelmed with anxiety regarding my career choice. I've been poring over countless literary magazines to assess where I might fit in, and I'm beginning to question if I truly belong. Apologies for digressing—it's just that I've noticed my drafts often morph into run-on sentences, which I later punctuate to clarify pauses. I want to ensure readers grasp the urgency, though perhaps I’m underestimating their ability to interpret my writing. Admittedly, I don’t have any readers yet, and I fear that my eagerness may come off as desperate.
As I ramble on, I feel the effects of insufficient punctuation—it's almost as if I'm struggling to breathe. I think I could use a brief nap. But will I still be charged for the entire session?
