Chapter 1: Introduction to the GoPro HERO8 Black
After a long break, I was excited to give the GoPro another shot.
The last sunset from my Minnesota State Parks Project was at Minneopa State Park. There's a well-known adage that states, “The best camera is the one you have with you.” In this series titled “The Best Camera Is,” we explore the top photographs taken with the best camera I had at hand. Since May 2020, one of those devices has been the GoPro HERO8 Black.
Originally, I purchased it for its video capabilities, but surprisingly, that's not the only function I utilize it for. The major upgrade from the older GoPro Hero3+ Black is its ability to shoot in RAW format. This camera was intended to be a standalone vlogging option, as its audio quality is surprisingly decent, making it suitable for casual recordings. The image quality is acceptable for quick shots, and I prefer this efficiency over the complexity of adjusting shutter speeds, ISO, aperture, focus, and audio levels all at once. While it's enjoyable for still photography, the battery life remains a concern for GoPro users.
