One Step at a Time

What I needed was a decisive plan for how and where to start. Lacking experience in online writing, I realized I had to focus my efforts. After conducting some research, I chose Medium as my platform. It felt like a safe space since I didn’t believe my friends or family frequented it. Moreover, it offered the flexibility to publish my work without external pressure regarding topics or timelines, as well as the potential for monetization without the fear of writing into a void for years before being noticed.

This clarity has been immensely beneficial; I can now disregard other distractions and fully commit to making this work. While I know there will be a time to explore different platforms or writing styles, for now, my focus remains singular.

I highly recommend taking a specific timeframe to explore your options, selecting the one that resonates most with you, and simply starting. You will never have all the answers before you begin; you cannot figure everything out while still at the starting line.

Consistency Before Mastery

Improvement comes through repetition. I would love to digest hundreds of books and then pen my first article flawlessly, but that’s not how it works. Mastery comes from doing, making mistakes, and growing along the way. With this in mind, I decided to pause my consumption of advice for now. I want to create a writing routine that fits seamlessly into my life, which includes a full-time job, socializing, and other interests.

Finding the right environment, time, and topics that ignite my passion for writing is where my focus lies. I trust that eventually, this process will become second nature, and that will be the right moment to elevate my game.

Certainly, there are techniques to enhance persuasive writing and improve readability. However, trying to manage all these elements from the outset can paralyze your ability to write even a single word.

Your skills will develop as you gain experience. Start with what you have, and don’t get bogged down by the details or strategies of those who are far ahead of you.

Keeping the Passion Alive

This journey isn't straightforward. Especially in the beginning, when tangible results are scarce, self-doubt can creep in. During such moments, I visualize my goals and remind myself of my initial motivations. This endeavor isn’t just for today; it’s for my future and the years to come. I refuse to depend on a company for my livelihood over the next four decades. The desire for independence and freedom fuels my commitment.

Embarking on new paths can be daunting. Our minds often resist change, preferring the comfort of the familiar. Yet, we are all capable of overcoming these hurdles.
