Exploring iPhone 14 Pro: A Look from an Android User's Viewpoint

Chapter 1: Unveiling the iPhone 14 Pro
Apple has officially unveiled the iPhone 14 Pro, showcasing a design that features a punch-hole cutout instead of the traditional notch. This new aesthetic marks a shift in Apple's design philosophy.
Apple's recent innovation includes an always-on display that conserves battery life effectively.
The camera system has seen significant software enhancements aimed at improving low-light photography. The primary camera boasts a 48MP sensor that utilizes pixel binning technology, combining four pixels into one larger pixel to enhance light capture.
Section 1.1: Notable Features and Comparisons
The iPhone 14 introduces several noteworthy features such as crash detection—something I hope to never experience—and satellite calling, which could be useful during a mountain hike, provided I opt into the service.
A key highlight of this model is the "Dynamic Island," a software feature designed to complement the punch-hole camera, adapting to various user needs. However, this feature seems like something that could theoretically have been implemented on older iPhone models, yet it appears to be exclusive to the iPhone 14 Pro.
Subsection 1.1.1: A Reflection on Past Innovations
Interestingly, one might argue that this feature simply transforms the smaller notch into a size reminiscent of the iPhone 13. As it stands, I don’t believe that iPhone 13 users should feel the need to upgrade to the 14. It’s amusing how Apple continues to adopt features from older devices that have been around for a decade—such as the Lumia 1020 from 2011, which also featured pixel binning and an always-on display. The advancements this year feel rather incremental and largely software-driven.
Section 1.2: The Upgrade Dilemma
Conversely, users of older iPhone models will likely notice a substantial difference upon upgrading. The enhancements include a more powerful processor, improved camera capabilities, and software refinements. Excluding the "Pro" features that may not appeal to every user, the iPhone 14 Pro closely resembles the iPhone X released back in 2017.
Given Apple's excellent software support, it seems wise to hold onto my current phone for a bit longer to save money. However, my iPhone 13 Pro, currently valued at $825, will depreciate even more next year. Upgrading to the iPhone 14 Pro with 256GB would require an additional investment of approximately $1000 SGD.
