Embracing Faith in Motherhood: Balancing Life and Spirituality

Chapter 1: Struggling for Spirituality Amidst Motherhood
Motherhood often requires so much from us—physically, emotionally, and financially. It can leave us wondering what we still have to give to God. If you're a mother reading this, I’d love to hear how you manage to fit everything into your day.
How do you find the time to pray regularly?
How do you carve out moments for solitude to read the Bible and gain wisdom?
How do you integrate sharing your faith into your weekly schedule?
During today's sermon, our Pastor spoke about the rewards awaiting us in Heaven, which made me reflect on my own efforts. Am I doing enough—or anything at all—to please God? My honest answer is no.
What does it mean to please God? I’m still searching for that answer. I long to be passionate about my faith, to love and obey God wholeheartedly. It’s not just a desire; it’s a necessity for me.
As Paul states in 1 Corinthians 9:24-25,
“Do you not know that in a race all the runners run, but only one receives the prize? So run that you may obtain it! Every athlete exercises self-control in all things. They do it to receive a perishable wreath, but we an imperishable one.”
Christ is our ultimate prize, and I need to pursue Him fervently.
I initially drafted this article a month ago but set it aside until today (September 7, 2024). Since then, I have committed to seeking Christ daily. I won’t lie—life hasn’t become easier. I've been quite inactive on Medium and overwhelmed with work, especially with my son being on school break. But what has transformed is my heart, which now brims with renewed hope and faith.
I hold on to the promise of Romans 8:28:
“And we know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love Him and are called according to His purpose.”
Testimony
Currently, I’m writing this while relaxing in bed after enjoying a delightful movie (Deliverance on Netflix). Today, I took a walk and managed to complete two loads of laundry. Plus, I savored some sweet and salty popcorn without having to share!
You might wonder, “What’s so special about that?” Well, God provided me with a much-needed helper. My aunt and cousin offered to watch my son today, allowing me some precious me-time—something I’ve been yearning for weeks. This kind of support has been rare for me since my son was born.
To all the mothers reading this, I encourage you to start running the (Christian) race. I believe we can fully engage in the race Paul describes. While our kids may slow us down at times, we can still strive for the prize by doing what pleases our Savior.
I urge you to integrate some spiritual practice into your daily routine. With God’s help, we can navigate our journeys successfully. Remember, God sees and hears us.
